Founded on 6 July 1573 by Jerónimo Luis de Cabrera.The 2010 national census established a population of 1 329 604 people. It is an important cultural centre, receiving university students from all over the country and the world. The National University of Cordoba, founded in 1613 in times of Spain, was the first university in Argentina and the fourth oldest in America.
The city has important historical, cultural and tourist points. The "Cañada de Córdoba" is the partial channelling of a stream that crosses the city from south to north. In 2000 Unesco has declared the Jesuit Square as World Heritage Site.
In addition to the National University of Cordoba, in the city there are the following Universities: Instituto Universitario Aeronáutico, Universidad Tecnológica Nacional, Universidad Católica de Córdoba, Universidad Provincial de Córdoba, Universidad Blas Pascal y Universidad Empresarial Siglo 21.
